"For I do not exist: there exist but thousands of mirrors that reflect me" - I think this quote sums up the book very nicely.

very boring. i found it's prose nice but the story confusing. i understood it, and i understood why it was written, but i feel like it doesn't fully accomplish what it is trying to do. also everyone loves to praise this book and say it's amazing but i feel like it's people's way of saying they like nabokov without mentioning lolita

An interesting read and the ideas and some parts were great, but some also dragged on a little (or might have been a little too tired and missed some parts; I will admit that that might be a possibility). Anyway, great novel but I definitely prefer some of his later works.

I love how philosophical and reflective this book is.
The impersonal way in which Smurov speaks about himself is brilliant and disconcerting. The whole story is perfectly hazy and dream-like. When you realise that Smurov is the narrator, the book suddenly reads entirely differently, and it all begins to take on a while other level of meaning that I'd been completely missing up until that point.
I will definitely be reading more Nabokov after this!
