My 13 yr old son had to read this book for his 7th grade Language Arts class. He does not like to read and will usually do anything he can to NOT read a book. This one was different.

He read the whole thing and then asked me to read it. I asked him if it would make me cry and he lied and said No!

It is an awesome story. I finished it in a few hours-it is about a kid who grows up in a house with more toys and scheduling conflicts than the parents have sense. A troubled youth who is at the end of his detention rope-next stop, the big house. It is a story about redemption and forgiveness and change. And yeah, you can squeeze out a few tears as a bonus.

While the story can sometimes seem so moral-driven that it feels like a homily, it counters this with great imagery and gripping survival-drama akin to The Hatchet.

I have been meaning to read this for a long time and I ended up listening to it on audio. Did I like it, it was just ok but I am glad that I finally got to read it.

Parts of the storyline reminded me of Breathing Underwater and Hatchet. The story was predictable but this was definately a original concept with sending a boy to live on his own to see if he can change for the better.

This is a great read for boys that like adventure books. I know I won't read on in the series (it ended like it should be done but I know there is another book after this) but this will be a great book to recommend.

i would like to thank my 5th grade teacher for making me read this book

reading this book at 11 years old was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. years later i still think about this book constantly. this book changed my viewpoint on life. i resonated so much with cole, it felt awesome to have a character that i could relate to so deeply with.

i read this book while i was going thru a tough time, and i was a rude person because of it. however this book changed me. got me out of a rough time and helped me learn how to be a better human in general

i dont care how old you are, your political views, or how much you hate the cover, im begging you to PLEASE read this book. cus im sure glad that my 5th grade teacher forced me to

and dont even get me started on the sequel, another absolute masterpiece. i would do ANYTHING to read this book for the first time again

infinity/5 stars

my all time favorite book forever and ever

At first I was uneasy about this book because I had to read it for school, but it turns out to be an amazing book. Great detail, writing style, and amazing plot that will have an effect on its readers.
