I got kind of bored in the middle, but I ended up REALLY enjoying the direction this book went towards the end

Strange book, but meaningful. Loved the very last part.

the way this book is written is what did it for me. sure, i was curious abt what happened to arthur (the third) & why he had a restraining order against him. yeah, i wanted to know what happened to arthurs grandpa. but none of it was as important to me as finishing a beautifully written book. the other part that did it for me was figuring out hunter s. thompson was a real person & that his fathers name was jack. makes me wonder about jack in the book. this is a lovely story.

v pretentious but kinda interesting but also kinda weird. idk. 3 stars.

I throughly enjoyed reading this book. At times it was a bit intense and I personally didn’t love the whole suprise cult aspect, but the story was very captivating.

This is easily one of the most pretentious books I’ve read with the most pretentious main character ever, but I still loved it. It was engaging, the plot kept me guessing, and I liked being able to hang out with a writer for a few days. It’s been a while since I read a book about a writer, and they’re always familiar and fun. Still, this was pretty white guy wearing a fedora reads Jack Kerouac and thinks he’s got the next Great American Novel in his soul. It was good. Flat, predictable, a good time. As long as you don’t pay too close attention to the main character because he will definitely make you want to revolt.

This follows Arthur on a quest to find answers about his elusive grandfather, famous author Arthur Louis Pullman. His grandfather was a big fan of the Amtrak, so Arthur (the Third) sets out on an adventure led by what he thinks are clues left by his grandfather for him.

As soon as I finished this book I turned to my girlfriend and said "You HAVE to read this". I can't even fully explain why this book is so incredible. Maybe its part of my own desire to leave words behind in journals or because it kept twisting and turning and as soon as I thought I knew what was going to happen next, something changed. Anyways. This is a must read and one of those books I will wish I could read for the first time again.

3.5 Stars!

I really really liked this book and it would have been a 4 stars if not for a few throw-away lines here and there that made me kind of cringe. The only one I can actually remember is when our main character meets a librarian, for no plot reason whatsoever, and in a way that felt out of character, he thinks about how big her boobs are? It felt out of place and unnecessary. That happened a few times.

Still, solid story!
