Arthur Pullman the Third is in search of meaning behind the clues that were left in a journal written by his grandfather Arthur Pullam who is a well-known author that has touched many lives with his famous book. Arthur jumps on the idea to go after all the clues embedded in his grandfather's journal, taking Arthur across the country and encountering some trouble as well as wonderful people along the way.
Very engaging story. The story itself has potential but there are too many things going on. I felt like I was getting lost in the characters and then another incident would occur and confuse me even more, between the dreams and reality. I felt like the story wasn't relatable and everything falls into pieces during the train journey. I got to say I learned a few things about Alzheimer's and the poetry is beautiful.
The premise behind the story was appealing, but as the story unfolded I felt like it was way too surreal.

It was so slow and I didn’t care about the main character or the plot. I wish there was more reason to care but I was annoyed and bored while reading it

I am lost for words. After finishing this book, I just feel like it has SO MUCH of wasted potential.
First of all, I loved the plot, which is interesting enough to pick up the book. I am a sucker for reconnecting with your Grandpa with Alzheimer's and then proceeding to go on an adventure to discover yourself typa plot.
Unfortunately, that where the downfall begins. We are introduced to this miserable character and his miserable family (idk but we see them from his pov, so everything is miserable). Immediately, I don't care for him at all. His past before he ended up in Truckee is very cryptid, and he hallucinates about his ex and talks to her, but somehow no one notices.
And then just out of nowhere, he is determined to search for the "answers" about his grandfather. He doesn't even has a very nice memory of his grandfather (which will soon turn out to be false). This motive is not enough to compel me to root for him.
Then he meets Mara, you're average fastidious British-Indian girl (whom must be played by Ritu Arya if it ever becomes a movie adaptation) that is a total badass. +1 for her and I wish we'd gotten more of her backstory. Like what actually happened to her sister?
The plots slowly unravels. We get to know about the underground party. Again, I wish we'd gotten to know Jack more. It was mostly in Arthur's miserable little head and we hardly get to understand other characters' motives.
Again, loved the plot, but there is just so many things that needs a little fixer-upper to turn rhis into a solid 4.5 stars. For now, I will just give 3.

I loved this book so much the first time I read it that I feared a reread wouldn't live up to my memories. But I was wrong. This book is still so good.
I love the exploration of the fake history of the Beat generation and the themes of memory and loss and pain and tragedy. I loved the poetry included and the way the story unfolded. I loved so much about this book that it's hard to put into words.
I didn't super love that the leader of the resistance was super pro violent. It felt off, especially considering he was the only named Black character. Mara almost fulfills the manic pixie dream girl trope, but it's not quite as bad as others I've seen.
I love this book so much.
