As a devoted fan of the TV show, I had some difficulty adjusting to the world in comic form. Season 8 felt scattered and far-fetched (even for BtVS). With this volume from Season 9, the storyline has evened out and found its thread.
Highlights of this volume: flashbacks of Nikki, Principal Wood's mother, run in parallel along Buffy's anguish at her pregnancy. Bringing back plot elements of the Buffybot in the copy of Buffy and her relationship with Spike kept a nostalgic feel to the plot, while still exploring Buffy's uncertain future.
As always, the great artwork and beautiful coloring make this a TPB to treasure. I always love seeing preliminary sketches and other background material at the end of the book as well.

Okay, two giant twists, one cancels the other, still, they both shocked me. Although the second twist takes the impact of the first, is not annoying, it makes sense and in the end it felt like a very satisfying episode.

I was so happy to see Buffy and Spike being friends again. That was most of what it got, here, aside from the gut-level feeling of Buffy being screwed out of life, I'm still very annoyed at how her "family" has treated her. Maybe when I read the companion volumes it'll feel less annoying. Probably not, Angel and Faith have always tweaked me. I like Faith, but she... oh long fandom story, I guess, ending in why can't someone trying to do right without the benefit of screwing everyone over first get respect. So, yes, I liked this volume, even if this series is getting odder and odder.

** spoiler alert ** Buffy ending up a ROBOT really pissed me off especially since I thought she was going through something very real, very scary and something THAT MATTERED. This going back to square one nonsense really rubbed me the wrong way!
I liked her reaching out to Robin at least.

first half: FIVE STARS YES PLEASE.
Second half: are you kidding me with this garbage, why doesn't she just airlock Andrew already.

So I mostly loved this comic because I love to see Spike and Buffy together. Although they really weren't together but they were talking a lot about important things together. But honestly, Andrew!? Always when I start to like him he does something incredibly stupid. I'm reading these Buffy comics in a totally wrong order and now I'm a bit annoyed that I missed the part where Xander and Dawn started dating. I want to know more about that.
