So I flew through the first book then about 50% of this book before I put it aside for 6 years. I know >.< (I moved states, had to find multiple part time jobs, got sucked into other series, and made the mistake of reading the epilogue of this book early on so I knew how it ended which made the hold the book had over me to finish, less. Don’t let me being a slacker deter you from reading this book/series.)
But it’s a testament to the books and story that I remembered everything well enough that I didn’t need to go back and restart this book. I remembered all of he characters. I remembers the issues.
This book, like the first in the duet, is not for the faint of heart.
I would classify it as horror romance more than dark romance. This duet is unlike any other books I’ve ever read, which is why I think it stuck with me so well and why I am always recommending the first book or the duet even without having finished this book.
There are many graphic scenes in this book and the first book, only one scene near the end of this book was almost too much for me. So heavy TW for on page graphic r@pe w/ murder along all the other TW for the series.
I do highly recommend this book, especially over many other dark romances, but be aware going in its dark.

I like the main characters being a mature married couple and I appreciate the effort to tie in true historical events, but I wasn't able to get over the hero KIDNAPPING HIS ESTRANGED WIFE. No, just, no. There were other plot and character problems, but that one was a total deal breaker for me. Not recommended.
Yet another cheesy Regency romance, but I do so enjoy them.

I read this years ago. I wish I had put it on my Godreads list. It is a good book to reread though. The hatred between Nathan and Evelyn, at the beginning of this novel is almost too much to bear but it becomes a good love story. The mystery is good enough to have the average reader wondering for a while.
My first book by London, and there will definitely be more. The premise - a man trying to win his wife's affections back after an estrangement - is unique in my experience of romance novels, so that caught my interest immediately. Then there's the fact that the sex was pretty hawt. Yeah, definitely going to read more of London's romances.
The story begins with Evelyn and Nathan living very separate lives... Nathan living in their country estate and Evelyn in London in high society. Evelyn is currently a companion to one of the royal princesses and contemplating having an affair of her own. When Nathan gets word that Evelyn is up to her eyeballs in one of the most outrageous scandals for some time, he decided enough is enough and comes back to take her to their country home. Naturally, she tries to avoid by going all the way to the king himself. However, nothing stops Nathan and she is returned to their home. They have been separated for three years and are virtually strangers, but with much difficult history between them. Nathan wants his wife back and Evelyn continues to struggle for some time to come to terms with their past and move on. When strange things start happening, Nathan begins to worry about Evelyn's safety. After a few attempts on her life and their meddling parents, the two are thrown together and attempt to start their lives over.
This was a difficult book for me to finish. I really liked the character of Nathan, but I could have thrown Evelyn across the room... several times. For the majority of the book she tries hard to reject her husband and not even try to work things out with him. Not until the end does she grow up and begin to discover that he really is a great guy and she should cut him some slack. Yes, they have had tragedy in their lives, but I think she was overreacting greatly. If I were Nathan, I think I would have dumped her long before he gave up on her. The overall story was okay, but it is a book that you can live without reading.

I had a hard time keeping up with the characters in this one. Basically a husband and wife come back together after scandal.
