11/3/24 » 3.5 or 3.75★ This book has become a bit dull a couple of years after reading it. It didn’t have an impact on my memory. All I remember is that Alex had back pains on a trip, which clarifies something. When I look back to everything, PoppyxAlex moments that I loved are almost nonexistent. Emily Henry’s characters are undeniably well-rounded and realistic. I just hope she’ll come up with different ideas in her future works. Not about bookworms, writers, and vacations. This is still a cute and refreshing read. I’m just stingy with my stars

Still trying to figure out whether I like fluffy romances. Then again (slight spoiler?), reading the first half of the book I felt the way about Poppy and Alex the way Sarah must’ve felt. Poppy’s speech about moving away from your home town did make me a bit teary eyed cause I could heavily relate to it.

A friends to lovers romance that was so fun to read! Gave me The Unhoneymooners vibes in a great way

It feels unfair for me to write a review of this book because I am so unabashedly in love with it that it couldn’t possibly spin this testimony as balanced. There are few books for which I don’t have negative feedback readily available. I’m not an asshole, but I’m also not generally easily pleased. Even other books I’ve rated 5-stars have had drawbacks. I skimmed through 1-3 star reviews of this book to recall concerns & identify issues, in an endeavor to appear more reasonable. I have found nothing. Perhaps, if I read it a few more times and the butterflies subsided, I could find something to complain about. That will have to wait, though. For now, I am perfectly satisfied.

Poppy is an incredible FMC: refreshing, quirky (but not in the way that every hecking FMC in romcoms are), and complicated. She’s flawed & messy but comes to recognize that and is accountable for it. It’s marvelous. Alex is similar, in that respect. As a MMC, he’s irresistible & subtle. They’re both remarkable and we’re lucky to have them, to be honest. I am enamored with them in ways I haven’t been for any others. The side characters are well-considered & carefully crafted. They are all gems in their own right and, honestly, Alex’s brothers would make for some solid spin off novels!

The timeline & plot framing is nothing short of a masterpiece. The crafting of this story is intimidatingly excellent. Her brain must be set up differently than mine because I simply could never. The dialogue is heart warming but, beyond that, Poppy’s internal monologue is enrapturing. Also, can we talk about the descriptions of Alex’s reactions, especially his facial expressions? Heck! You come to know her so well but, through her knowledge of him, you become intimately aware of his every flinch as well. Just so special.

The world is better because this book exists. Do yourself a favor and introduce it to your corner of the universe.
