A tv producer on a comeback falls for her co-writing neighbor in this latest from one of my go-to summer romance authors. I loved all the Emily in Paris (but make it London) vibes, the swoony love interest, the revenge on your ex, women taking down the man vibes.
This was AMAZING on audio read by my very favorite narrator, Brittany Pressley (seriously any book she reads is almost guaranteed to be a new fav for me). Highly recommended, especially for fans of books like The roughest draft or Would like to meet by Rachel Winters.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and @prhaudio for early digital and audio copies in exchange for my honest review!!

The Sweetest Revenge
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Author: Lizzy Dent
I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and Penguin Group and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.
Synopsis: Her past is a mess. But her present is about to get delicious.
Amy is more than one disastrous night of drunken revenge on her boss/ex-boyfriend’s Audi—the night that tanked her rising TV producer career and led to a hasty move to London for a fresh start. She is thirty years of awesomeness. At least, that’s what Amy tells herself every morning before trekking to her mediocre job making trailers at a failing British TV channel.
Two years later, she’s finally starting to believe it. Sparks are flying between her and Jake, her handsome new downstairs neighbor, and there’s a competition at work that just might get her career back on track while bringing her and Jake even closer. But then, in a twisted turn of fate, her past and present are about to epically, hilariously collide.
My Thoughts: A am little behind on reviews due to have surgery in May and finishing my Master’s Degree in June, so I did the audiobook on this one. Brittany Pressley is the narrator for the audiobook and she is one of the best and I just LOVE listening to her voice. Amy Duffy, a developmental executive for TV is supposed to he on the way to her cousin’s wedding when her then boyfriend drops a bombshell, many shots later, a missed wedding, Amy does the most embarrassing thing, which is captured on video that goes viral. She escapes to London to reinvent herself working for a small time studio. After a merger is announced, her boyfriend that she fled from is now a ‘consultant.’ Her neighbor is also fleeing from his life. A meet cute brings these together in unspectacular fashion as she works hard to regain her composure. This follows a friends to lovers and next door neighbor trope.
The story is narrated by both Amy and Jake, it their perspectives. Amy has been in London for two years and now has the opportunity for promotion into a role similar to the one in NY before her life exploded. Her neighbor, Jake, also running from an embarrassing event, is a writer that has given up. This new project involves a writing project, so the two (Amy & Jake) team up together, spend an absorbent amount of time together… When Amy’s former boyfriend, Chris, is the one that decides her fate on the promotion, will that explode? Or end blissfully? The characters were developed well with depth, witty banter, chemistry, and intriguing. The characters were likable and relatable. The author’s writing style was complex, humorous, swoony, and kept me engaged. The flow worked well and the pace was a little slow in the beginning and the ending felt a bit rushed.
Content warning of f-bombs and the c** word for those that would take offense. This is a closed door romance, otherwise. The synopsis gives a little too much away, so I took out one part of it. If you can go in blindly, it really is the way for this book. Overall, I enjoyed reading this and I have loved other works by Dent. I would recommend this quick read/listen to other readers.

3.75 stars
This was a fun lighthearted read that was a quick page turner for me. Low on steaminess and romance, it’s more of a romcom coupled with the story of a girl just trying to move past one bad viral video.
Amy Duffy flees her job in Development In television in New York when she’s caught on tape seeking revenge on her ex who also happens to have been her boss that just canned her pitch for a murder series. Seeking refuge in London, Amy takes on a different job in tv where she hopes to rebuild her name and her career. As luck would have it, a VERY hot neighbor moves in who is also trying to fly under the radar after embarrassingly leaving a reality TV show. It isn’t long before he and Amy hit it off as friends and possibly more as they realize they both have writing in common.
I think I expected a little more heat from Amy and Jake even if their situation called for them to wait. Readers should know they stay mostly “coworkers”/friends for the majority of the novel and lovers for the tail end. But if that doesn’t discourage you, then this was an enjoyable read. The writing is solid, the story itself original and the characters likable. I loved the parts where Amy and Jake went researching in London for show ideas and felt like I learned a little bit about London in the process. Their banter is sweet and funny and Jake could really not be a more adorable character. I also really enjoyed Maggie as a friend and could envision her getting her own book. Thank you to G. P. Putnam’s Sons and NetGalley for my advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

What a fun ride to be on!
We’ve all done something embarrassing and worried about the repercussions and what people think of us. Amy and Jake took that to the next level and on a bigger stage.
I loved seeing the progression of their relationship and it was refreshing to see how open Jake was with Amy about all of his worries and insecurities.
Chris was the perfect villain and seeing it all come full circle for him was just the cherry on top!
Overall, I think this is a really funny and enjoyable romcom!

Didn’t like the characters. Didn’t grab me.
The Sweetest Revenge | Lizzy Dent
train wreck + cinnamon roll + the summer that launched THE career
Amy Duffy is not just one bad day in July. She is not a hashtag. She is not a trending topic. And Amy will keep telling herself that until she can actually believe it! After a big career setback followed by relational revenge that hurt her a lot more than it nailed him, Amy Duffy, up and comer in the television development world, finds herself hiding in London as a promo producer. Whispers of a merger and a new internal development team start circling. Two years after the humiliation of her life, she finds the tiniest speck of hope that things might turn out all right. Jake Jones, hot off his own moment of public humiliation, moves into the flat below Amy and she soon discovers that he is much more than a pretty face. Their connection and careers snowball into a stranger-than-fiction turn of events that is just as likely to end in chaos as a happily ever after…
The pining and chemistry between Amy and Jake is *chef's kiss* and while it’s a fade-to-black sort of literary situation, I’m not mad about it. This is the first Lizzy Dent novel for me, and it carried all of the Emily Henry vibes that I love: sharp and realistic characters, prime banter and electricity, as well as the descriptive setting that makes everything sparkly and magical. Despite the magic, (because there is no cinnamon roll hero without a little sugar) there is plenty of grit to balance out the sugar coating. I appreciated that they had both faced humiliation on a massive scale and the realistic approach to recognizing when to be disciplined enough to put a distraction on hold.
I would have liked a little more time in the last quarter of the book, but I always want more of the magic of everything (and everyone) falling into place. I would have loved to know more about the dreamy stories that Jake crafted and the realization of the connection that they put on hold for so long.
London + EmHen vibes + brilliant characters + sleeping (and bathtubs) under the stars earn The Sweetest Revenge 5/5stars from me
Hits the shelves 24 July 2023.
Massive thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC for review!

I ultimately liked this one, but I definitely did not love the main character, Amy. She frustrated me almost the entire book. She made some awful choices and then continued to make questionable ones even after she said she learned from her past.
I understood her desire to fix the past and get a great show created. And I liked seeing her develop a relationship with her neighbor, Jake. It was nice to see how they opened up to each other slowly.
Amy’s ex was awful and I am glad that he got what was coming to him.
Overall entertaining, but not my favorite. (3.5)
