I liked this just fine but did find it a little dull and repetitive almost. It was very informative and I learned a lot but it’s closer to a biography than historical fiction.

I listened to this book on Audible, which was probably not the best decision. While the narrator was very talented at using different accents, she made Marjorie seem a little robotic and hard to relate to. Either way, I’m surprised this book is rated so high. The author seemed to be conflicted in the genre of the book. It seemed to go back-and-forth between a biography and a fiction nov. So much of the beginning was just telling about events and Marjorie‘s life but in the chapter 20s, (or at least that’s when I noticed) the author started trying to leave cliffhangers at the end of each chapter to imply “guess what happens next”. I don’t know if it’s because the book was getting long or her editors told her to do that but it was weird all of a sudden.

The win of the book is that I knew nothing about Marjorie Post before and have been madly Googling the Sea Cloud, her daughters, diplomatic relationships and more as it made me want to get to know her better. I would only recommend this book to someone interested in the history or learning more about Ms. Post, not in the literary aspects

Ever since I first watched an episode of The Food that Built America a few years ago that mentioned Marjorie Post, I've wanted to learn more about her, but I hadn't gotten the chance until now.

So, I'm kind of iffy about this book. I mean, it wasn't all that bad, but content issues made me dislike it more. Content issues such as bad language and some things that I consider inappropriate that were meantioned somewhere in chapters 48-50.

Another thing that irked me was how fast Marjorie fell in love with each of her husbands. I know this is based on real things that happened, but still.....

I did really like learning more about history, though, which was probably the best thing in this book, to be honest.

I only knew a very small amount about Marjorie Post. She had quite a full and interesting life. The only thing that would have made this book better for me would have been to be written in 3rd person rather 1st. Fascinating woman who loved so many different versions of her life. Recommend is you enjoy historical figures.
