As with all biographies (fictionalized or otherwise), I feel a little strange rating this. Your life is 4/5 stars! But Marjorie Post was a fascinating woman. I wish we would have gotten a bit more of her board room wranglings and a bit less of her romantic life, but all in all I really enjoyed this book.

Rich in money and husbands!

What a lovely book! The Magnificent Lives of Marjorie Post was a fantastic read, and the fact it’s true makes it even better. I was left wanting to learn more about all that Marjorie Post accomplished in her life (because it’s really quite remarkable).

Really enjoyed this historical fiction

While on the outside Marjorie Merriweather Post can be seen as a rich and privileged woman of her era, her life was fascinating and took many twists and turns both personally and professionally. Her story is fascinating and I found this book very enjoyable.

It was a slow read for me, but what a fascinating person and life!

I read this book on Sunday and while it was pretty informative, it did kind of devolve into a laundry list of the events of Marjorie Post's life. I found the beginning very interesting but once she married.. it would start out great and then, without fail described these men failing her. I found it bizarre how her third husband just inexplicably became a mean person. I also found it strange there was no mention of prenup agreements. Anyhow, it did not really give me any real insight into the person that Marjorie Post was. I did not learn the people her daughters were either. Her relationship with her father was the best part. I found the lives of the super wealthy to be pretty boring and kind of obscene. The fact that she would have occasional guilty pangs of the hedonism her class exhibited, and actually noticed that her staff and servants sweated and worked hard to make her and her family's lives easy, well, I honestly believe that it was part of the writer's creative process, not necessarily based on reality (this is a fictionalized account). I suppose it is not any wonder that Trump purchased her MarALago since she was also someone who loved to create ostentatious living quarters.

Not going to finish. It felt boring, repetitive. Also felt like I was reading rich people propaganda. I think I would prefer to read an actual nonfiction book about Marjorie Post, bc she does seem fascinating. The author’s style just doesn’t work for me.

Loved this - there's so much I didn't know about this amazing woman! And now I want to read all of Allison Pataki's other books. Excellent writing and character development. The only reason this didn't get 5 stars is because I did feel it focused a little too much on her marriages and not enough on her life in between. She was obviously more than just a wife 4 times over and while her many failed marriages were important pieces of her history, I felt like there was too much attention paid to her husbands and her relationships with them. I would have liked to have that attention spent on her accomplishments and her life outside of her marriages. There were very tiny hints that she might have been a feminist and possibly a suffragette, but then no more information or follow-up - we weren't told how she felt or reacted when women received the vote. However, it was still a great read and I highly recommend to any fan of historical fiction.

Great book about a immensely wealthy woman. I would have liked a little less on her marriages and a little more on her philanthropy.
