My one knock of this book is the length, and thus not a higher rating. In fairness, the woman did live 86 years, but at times I thought it was a bit long and slow. I am a big historical fiction fan, and I enjoy novels based on real people. I found Marjorie fascinating and spent a lot of my time googling the key players in the book. What a woman MMP was!

3.5 stars. This was a great story that I was really invested in. However I found it to be quite long but at the same time lacked depth and detail at times.

Overall, it was definitely a good book and one that I looked forward to pick up.

Read for book club. Loved it!

I feel like this book would have been better as a nonfiction. It's the story of Marjorie please with the daughter of the man who created the Post company. She comes from nothing in Battle Creek Michigan to a extreme wealthy woman. Of course this is an error where women aren't really allowed to run companies and to have much influence especially if they are married. She does marry several times. She marries four times each of them without long lasting love. I found it hard to connect to her because she flitted from love to love and because while she does love her children she was not an active role in their lives. Nevertheless she was an amazing entrepreneur who set her company up for success by getting Bird's eye foods and other acquisitions.

Over the past few years, I have come to know the name Marjorie Merriweather Post and have heard a bit about what an impressive woman she was. My curiosity was sparked, and I eventually made my way to this book hoping to learn more about her.

I enjoyed learning about Post's extreme wealth, lavish lifestyle, romantic relationships, social connections, and especially her philanthropy.  However, I am left wanting to know more.  That's not a bad thing though.  While I did feel that much of the story focused on how Post's life was affected by the men in her life, from her father to her fourth husband, perhaps that could simply be because that's what life was like for women, even powerful, intelligent, wealthy women, back then.  Or perhaps the author intentionally chose this as a way to structure and focus what likely would have ended up being a colossus of a book that went on and on.  Regardless, I feel a bit more knowledgeable about who Marjorie Merriweather Post was and look forward to researching her further.
