I’m not sure about all the science parts but I loved this book.
At first glance I wasn’t sure since it seemed like a cheesier than usual romance. Plus I’m not a fan of fanficfion books becoming published, especially after 50 shades of grey, city of bones and after all being trashed. But I was proved wrong by this reylo fanficfion. It was really cute, even if the writing read very cheesy to me. There was a lot of familiar tropes in it such as, fake dating, “enemies to lovers”, third act breakup, sunshine and grouch, making fun of the one bed trope. It all just worked.
I did have two issues with the book. The representation of Canada was honestly awful. It wasn’t even bad stereotypes, it was like the author had any idea about Canada. It mentioned Canadians eat moose hearts. I have never heard of this nor met anyone who ate moose hearts. I’m wondering if this is maybe an indigenous thing up north, as historically they used to use all parts of the animal to ensure nothing goes to waste (which is something we as a society should go back to). It’s such an obscure thing if that’s the case, I’m not sure why it would be included. Olive is also from Toronto (probably because it’s the only city people outside Canada can name), it’s presented as the snowiest place in Canada and it doesn’t get much snow because it’s on the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes create their own weather patterns and prevent too much snow. Toronto gets ice storms more often than snow storms. I don’t understand why the author didn’t pick a prairie city if that’s what she wanted to make the joke of. Her Canadian jokes really didn’t land. I had to check where the author was from and was surprised she wasn’t American honestly.

I know the STEM girlies ate this up but seeing as I cant care less about science or university romance, I guess I kinda fell into this trap willingly. I still went into it with an open mind though because Bride was entertaining enough. MAAAAN was this a total snooze fest. The plot is forced and predictable. If Olive and Anh had simply chatted about their feelings she and Adam wouldn't of had to fake date.. or even interact. Also things like Anh sending Olive to go kiss Adam after the truck scene, asking her to put the sun-screen on him, pressuring her into staying in a hotel room with him.. this book was neither character-driven or story-driven. It was Anh-driven

I loved this book and the writing style. It’s an amazing love story with themes of finding yourself, selflessness, and learning to stand up for yourself.
