Normally I hate first person POV but I gave this one a shot and I'm so glad I did. First book by Connolly and his writing prose is so incredible. Excellent characters, excellent tension, good twists and turns, graphic description but not in a gratuitous way. Eager to read the rest of the series.

This is very plot driven. Extremely violent and gory. Almost too much at times. Lots of brooding, lots of angst. Not sure I would read more of this series. It is hard to imagine where the protagonist goes from this point.

This is my fist Charlie Parker book and I hope the series gets better . There were too many characters in the book and it seemed there were two books combined in one .The first part of the book concentrates on solving a missing person case and the other half in solving his wife and daughter's murder by a psychotic serial killer called the Traveling Man . Put in some sidekicks , organized crime and unnecessary shoot outs I lost track of what was going on in the book . It did pick up pace and was a little streamlined in the end so I am giving it 3 stars

CW: child rape, torture, murder and all the previous involving adults.

So there is no way you can like reading about child abuse and all the horrible things that happens in this book.
Every dead thing is dark, ugly and terrifying.
But it is also really addictive, I came to care for Bird and what will happen to him, hopping we can find his revenge. Other protagonists such as Louis and Angel and also attaching.

Starting book 2 right now.
