Five. Thousand. Stars.

the relationships in this book seemed a bit strained to me/quick/not developed well etc

This is the second book in The Kingdom of Crows series; it picks up almost immediately after the first book ended. Fallon considered herself a prisoner in a gilded cage but as she works to save her family and prevent a war between the crows and the Fae kingdom she still feels loyal to, she discovers that what she thought she wanted may not be what she really needs.
The book had a bit of a slow start for me but once out got going, it was hard to put down. Lore is perfect for Fallon and seeing their relationship blossom in this book was *chef’s kiss*. I can’t wait for the third book.

Ummm okay you’re telling me the MMC can shift into black night smoke and is a shifter with iron talons….. HOT AS HELL…. can use his shadow hands and can speak into her mind because they are mates AND calls her cute nicknames in his own tongue but it takes her so long to figure out what it means…..!!!!! (Takes breathe) yea okay I love this series INSTANT 5 stars for me.

This book was a rollercoaster of feelings. I couldn’t put it down and now I can’t wait till the next one!

Fallon and Lore frustrated me so much through roughly half of the book. I felt she was overly defensive and Lore kept making it worse by not being truthful to her. I’m so happy that we got to see them happily together before shit went down again, but it was like pulling teeth to get there!

I also felt like they go from being irritated with each other to declaring love very quickly. I would have liked to see more of them teasing or flirting? Or maybe more of a middle ground just before Fallon realizes her feelings and accepts them.

The end has me REELING! What a cliffhanger! I’m waiting for the next one with baited breath.

I’m so sad

I really enjoyed the first book and was looking forward to seeing how the story continued but I didn’t even make it to 50% before I gave up. Fallon is such a whiny child! For no legitimate reason. She acted like a petulant narcissistic child and I hate her. Even when confronted with logical reasoning she refuses to grow the heck up. The fact that people still tolerate her is just as irritating. As much as I wonder if she grows up in the next book I won’t be reading it because I just can’t force myself to finish this one. It’s also extremely slow. Slow pace mixed with annoying character makes for an irritating read.

Much better!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨Growth of characters and sublime plot. Great second installment after a mid first installment. Glad I stuck with it. Ends on a cliffhanger.

3.5 ⭐️ but rounding it up again to 4 as I did thoroughly enjoyed the book, despite the author making Fallon out to be petulant *but*

-1.5⭐️ for the authors decision to interchange the correct spelling of words/names to the phonetic spelling.

It was immensely frustrating to read, for example, “Eefah” instead of “Aoife”, especially as an Irish person. I do not understand why the author did this. She already has a glossary of both Crow and Lucin languages at the start of the book with Crow phonetics(‼️), and let’s be real, after a while we stop caring. We have the sound in our minds and we know who’s who.

But if you’re going to culturally appropriate names that exist in another real language, please respect the language and use the correct spelling throughout. Not the phonetic. It made 0 sense to me that an editor let this happen.
