Did I accidentally buy the children's version of The Phantom of the Opera?
Yes, yes I did.
Did I refund it?
No, not at all. I sat down & read this bad boy. The fact that I'm 24 became irrelevant - I enjoyed it.
Since it's rewritten for children, I'm of course rating it accordingly. Absolutely captivating for the children's book that it is.
Great characters, great mystery, love them grey characters - Finished the book in one sitting (granted 160 pages is quite short, especially with its giant font).
Accessibly written for its age group, and yet still managed to make me laugh and interested for my own age. Love it, and now I'm gonna go watch the musical because of it.

I initially gave this a 4.75 because I was confused about what the father could have meant by sending the Angel of Music since
we know it's not Erik by the end, but after some research into other readers' opinions, I'm assuming he just meant it like a fairytale.
I think it would have been best that this was clarified better as I felt frustrated with what I saw as a slight plothole, but this new interpretation that I googled for is enough for me to give it full 5 stars, at least.

This was a lot shorter than I expected it to be and I finished it a couple of days ago but only just gotten round to updating. I found it interesting to see where the influences had been drawn for the musical and I am happy that the musical doesn't deviate too far from the story as is the case with Les Misérables, which is a far larger book. I love the way that the story is told through the eyes of different people and from snippets of conversations with people that were there at the time. I feel somewhat sorry for Erik but a tragic back story does not mean that the actions of a person can be forgiven.
