This book, especially the first half, is a challenging, painful read. The details of the Shoah are starkly presented and preserved, with the author's memories supported by photos and historical research.
While at times horrifying, this memoir is beautifully written; the author's lost family are lovingly remembered.
I'm glad the latter half of the book is a memoir of her whole life after liberation- full of hope and healing and service and family.

This is an incredible story of survival.

I do find it particularly sad that Tova felt like she needed to share this story only in 2020 because of rising antisemitism.

I do think it was also that Tova’s life after the Holocaust was detailed to. I feel like so many people just imagine that things went back normal really quickly. And that is never the case.
