5/5 😮‍💨This was really good. I really enjoyed the writing. The story telling was top tier, at no point did I feel like it didn’t make sense. 10/10 prose. The time line that was painted, was sooo juicy. And I did cry at the last 5 pages.

Argh. I should have trusted my gut, and DNF'd this one, but instead I wasted my brain cells on finishing this sad sack of a book. It managed to keep me going just at the point I would have normally quit, and that was a mistake.

This book is poorly written, has ableist tropes like 'investigating people who claim they have chronic pain but lift furniture', is predictable, and just.. unenjoyable to read. I don't even know how I made it through, other than the fact it's such low hanging fruit that it only takes two brain cells to read it.

The number of times the author commented on Beth Greer's appearance just got exhausting. She's so beautiful, she's so sexy, etc, etc forever and ever until the end. Then someone mentions her 'sexuality', even though there is literally zero writing about her 'sexuallity' in this book. Yes, folks, apparently this author thinks someone being 'sexy' and 'sexuality' ARE THE SAME THING!

Bad, bad, bad, bad.

I’ve read a couple of books by this author and I hate to say this has been my least favorite. I found myself feeling very detached from the characters and any plot twists were easily guessed and not very juicy. I struggle with paranormal books because they always come off a bit cheesy and are often not very scary. I know that this book was written first but it felt like a not as good version of Riley Sagar’s “The Only One Left”.
Beth’s secret half sister and her not so great home life felt forced. I also thought it made no sense after learning about her character that Lily’s ghost didn’t kill Shea? And why didn’t she try to kill shea earlier? Beth suddenly killing Lily after she had cut her a massive amount of slack for years felt very out of place even after Beth’s parents died.
Pretty ‘eh’ and forgettable unfortunately.
