“My Roman Centurion, welcome to your room without windows.”

not to be a gore whore but i guess was expecting this to be a little more… uninhibited. the way the movie left so much up to the imagination deserves all the praise it gets, i’m not denying that, but i don’t know if anyone is seeking out this extra content just to be left wondering. instead of settling whatever concept you have in your mind of the way these people died, these stories just continue to torture you. i also agree with other reviews that mentioned the lack of consistency, both in art style and the supposed back story of john doe. it felt more like reading a string of unrelated fan works than a cohesive series. i will say that towards the end things do pick up. envy and wrath tie together beautifully, and this is also where the writing is at its strongest. otherwise though, i would only give this a go if you’re particularly interested in hearing more about how this man feels about god, which in most cases is frankly the worst genre imaginable. if you’re after the gory details the movie left out, this isn’t for you.

someone reviewed this as "sleazy and unnecessary" and honestly i can't top that!

i read this because i was reading the se7en script under the influence and then went down an internet rabbit hole about se7en and then read this.

big mid-2000s edgy vibes here. i'm sure 15 year old me would have liked this more
