Notes: The 2nd in the "The Improbable Meet-Cute" novella series (6 stand-alone novellas released around Valentine's Day 2024), and I just adored it. Both MCs were so cute and felt so real, and I just loved this story. I wanted so much more of it!!

This was my first by Abby Jimenez and it won’t be my last! She gave us quite a few characters and their backstories in 60 pages. She tackled some heavy topics while adding in humor to lighten the mood. My only complaint was that I wish it could’ve been longer, but I guess I am just not a short story kinda gal. I need to get emotionally attached to the characters. Loved the invisible string theory though. I both read and listened to the audible narration and I thought Holly’s narrator was a bit flat. I enjoyed but probably won’t read again.

  • I loved how much heart this story had. They were also some very funny “LOL” moments and several important quotes about life. Holly‘s job has to be one of the hardest ones out there (hospice nurse). To take on what she did is truly an act of love. The way John met his puppy, Doobie, broke my heart. But I adored that John kept him without hesitation. I would love to have had a full length story of this one!

Genre: Contemporary romance, novella, fiction
My summary: Holly is a hospice nurse taking care of her grandma. John is helping his brother fix up his condo. His brother asks him to leave a Valentine’s Day card on his girlfriend’s car but John puts it on the wrong car. He starts exchanging notes with the woman of the mystery car, and they soon hit it off. Their notes are just what the other person needs in the moment.
My thoughts: I’m a sucker for dogs being rescued, especially by a hot handyman that does random acts of kindness, so this was great for me. Leave it to Abby Jimenez to wrench your heart out, stomp on it, heal it up, and inspire you to seek out your own happiness in only 61 pages. This was very sad but still witty and inspiring, which is especially impressive for the length of this novella.

I really liked this book but was kinda disappointed in how it ended, I would have loved an epilogue. However very cute and an easy listen defo recommended!

For what was advertised as a romantic comedy, this was really depressing. I especially didn’t care for the part about the abandoned puppy. Are you trying to make me sad and angry? Also didn’t care for the writing style. Short, blocky sentences and not enough contractions made it feel stiff.

Holly's grandmother is dying but there's a mysterious man leaving notes on her car and helping her deal with the grief. But will she ever meet him in person?
This was a cute quick read, but not as lighthearted as I would have liked. I did love Grandma's secret and her last message to her granddaughter. I think a book about the grandma's life would be a good read!
