Laughable loves... ironically, I found these short stories to be anything but laughable.

I typically enjoy following the author's characters throughout the book, getting to know their series of contradictions, thoughts, and feelings. therefore, for me it was kind of unfortunate that the first stories of this book were quite short; though they were still enjoyable and reflective. I found myself picking up more interest and enthusiasm, that magnetism and weird fondness that draws you towards milan kundera's characters, as the book advanced towards more complex and long stories that are found as you near the end of the book. in conclusion, an enjoyable read, though not as addicting from begining to end in comparison to other of the author's books

Disappointed. It's been awhile since I've read Kundera, but I haven't found anything I've liked as much as The Unbearable Lightness of being, and I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't reread that again to double check as it has been so many years. Every book since seems to range from okay to just fine and now this which was just ugh for me. The characters, especially the women, weren't 'laughable' so much as rather despicable caricatures. Perhaps just to be viewed as a sexist piece of its time?...

(Although animal crossing took over my life for a bit while I was getting through this book) I loved it. Kundera is just a comfort read for me. The hitchhiking game was my favorite among the stories. Heartbreaking.
We pass through the present with our eyes blindfolded. We are permitted merely to sense and guess at what we are actually experiencing. Only later when the cloth is untied can we glance at the past and find out what we have experienced and what meaning it has.
