For what's touted "best", there's a lot of mediocrity.

For what's touted "speculative", there's a lot of "ho-hum, I've read this exact story several times before". And I know that's unfair, and as someone who writes, the accusation of writers writing the same story is a tedious, almost lazy criticism, and it's not that I don't want to read the same story over and over again--what is life, after all, but the same story--but that the telling of it has to be special, distinctive, memorable, or something, and it was very hard to find those moments in this anthology.
