A delightful book. Charming, compelling romance, a fun little sense of humor. It's often quite heavy handed, and the resolution was much too tidy and convenient for my taste. It didn't really feel as though plot threads were coming together and resolving so much as it felt like they were being wallpapered over with a simple, convenient, cloying ending. Nevertheless, I did really enjoy the vast majority of the book.

Love Is a Rogue is the first book in the series, Wallflowers vs. Rogues by Lenora Bell.
I think the theme of the series is what I enjoyed the most.
The theme is about ladies breaking boundaries and institutions to pursue their dreams. They want more in life besides being an obligation and married off.
The first book, Love Is a Rogue is about Lady Beatrice Bentley who is in love with books and words. She wants to write her own dictionary one day and will do anything to avoid marriage, along with being a cash cow to a titled Earl or Duke that needs money.
Beatrice meets Stamford Wright, a Navy man and carpenter at her brother's estate, Thornhill House. Not only do the sparks fly but conversation is interesting for Beatrice.
Wright listens to her and acts like her words and mind are important.
But Beatrice and Wright are from two different worlds and must find a way for their love to survive.
Also in the plot, Beatrice inherits a bookstore by her estranged Aunt that just passed away. Her Aunt married for love instead of obligation and she knew how much her niece loved books!
Beatrice and Wright must figure out a why to repair the bookstore along with keeping it in Beatrice's hands. A real estate shark wants to take the property away from her.
I thought the characters were decent. The plot was okay along with the dialogue.
The book wasn't outstanding but it wasn't bad either.
3 stars right down the middle!
I will definitely read more in this series and hope to get something "more" from the upcoming books.
Love Is a Rogue was an okay book but I needed more of a spark from this one.

Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was not enchanted by this romance novel. While I liked the bookish, Beatrice, Wright didn't quite fit in her world. He was too manly and brutish to be a genuine love interest. He kept using words like princess to refer to her and was too aware of her social status. a match between him and Beatrice just seemed unrealistic.

Beatrice is a girl like me! Her passion for books and words stand out!
I love Beatrice and Ford! They are both physically "flawed" characters. Beatrice meets Ford and begins to open up and taste life and it's a wonderful journey to watch her transform from a wallflower to bring her true self.
Needless to say if you love intelligent heroines and heros who love their intelligence, you'll love this book!

Unfortunately, this book didn't really work for me. I really like the premise and the set-up for this book, and the beginning was pretty funny and enjoyable. It wasn't anything super special or stand-out, but I was having a good time. The main character is bookish and is working on writing a dictionary and is perfectly content with her life as a wallflower in society, ready to take on spinsterhood after one more year in society. The hero is a carpenter and a Navy man that works for her family.
The two main characters were clearly very into each other from the first page and the whole "I hate him, but what is this stirring in my tummy?" and "I can't be with her because she's a duke's sister." shenanigans went on for way too long in my opinion. I completely skimmed the last two/three chapters of this book because I was just so tired of reading it, and I didn't want to DNF something so close to the end.
If the rest of this series following the friend group of the main character, there are a few that I would love to read from and I want to give Lenora Bell another shot because this is my first book from her.
I was provided with an early copy of this book for review purposes from the publisher.

I did not like the writing style. It felt too modern and did not compel me to keep reading. Also the heroine's use of big words felt forced and inauthentic.

I've been waiting for Lenora Bell's Wallflowers vs. Rogues series since reading For the Duke's Eyes Only. The Mayfair Ladies' Knitting Society is secretly a front for a group of women who dare to dream of more for themselves than what society says they can have. They are a varied group, all bound together by their aspirations. This book focuses on Lady Beatrice Bentley, sister to a duke, who wants nothing more than to live at her brother's Cornwall estate and write an etymological dictionary. Her mother is unwilling to let her out of society events so easily, and so Beatrice escapes to Cornwall for a brief stay to work on her dictionary. Her plans go astray, however, with the presence of carpenter Stamford Wright. Ford is too loud, too brawny, and far too handsome for her to concentrate on anything. She thinks she'll be rid of him upon her return to London, however when she learns she has inherited a derelict bookshop she knows she'll need a hard working carpenter, and luckily Ford is in town as well. Together they repair the bookshop and build a relationship in the process.
I couldn't put this book down! Bell does an excellent job at creating relatable characters, and Beatrice and Ford are no exception. They both have to deal with challenges both internal and external - not the least of which is vast difference in their stations. The chemistry between them sparks immediately and is so fun to read.
I definitely recommend this book, and can't wait to see what Lenora Bell does next! I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.
