Reading Talia Hibbert’s backdated novels after tragically finishing THE BEST ROMANCE SERIES OF ALL TIME, The Brown Sisters. I enjoyed this book. Not as good as the Brown Sisters Trilogy but what will be.

This book was cool to read as you get a good idea of Talia’s progression as an author. And I loved that the main character had ASD, which isn’t incredibly common in romances so diversifying the genre was commendable.

My main qualm with this book was that I felt disconnected with both the main characters. Both Evan and Ruth felt a little flat. Reading from both perspectives made me feel this disconnect stronger. I wish we learned more about Evan and his backstory and his trauma.

All that said still a great book. I really enjoyed it. Will definitely be continuing this series.

This book was excellent. It was well written and detailed love story. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

This was a very emotional romance book. Ruth’s healing journey felt very nuanced which I liked, as well as the autism representation in her character. Ruth and Evan were cute together, and I liked how the pacing of their relationship too.

I do have to say though the whole feeding thing in the beginning was annoying me slightly. It then felt like a competition between the two of “I’m taking care of you first”. I just never like the whole “You HAVE to eat” attitude that love interests have. I’m just glad it didn’t go on for too long.

Ruth’s growth was so well written. I really like how she stands up for herself and overall found her to be relatable in ways that are probably not good but I still liked. Evan on the other hand I thought was not so well-rounded like her. This story is about Ruth and her journey, but if you’re going to give a character their own point of view, at least give them some depth. I did like Evan, but I felt like he was either thinking “Oh my god Ruth is so special to me” or “Oh my gosh what’s wrong with Ruth I messed up” and not much else. His perspective also felt limited as well which I wasn’t really expecting.

I really liked the sister relationship between Ruth and Hannah too. At first I was skeptical of Hannah but then she came around and I loved how they talked to each other. Really sweet and nicely developed.

Sometimes the writing/dialogue felt a bit choppy, which led me to feeling disconnected with the main characters sometimes throughout the story. There’s a lot of speeches(?) I guess that I just got the point of at the beginning of them and kind of skimmed the rest of them. Talia’s writing has definitely changed a lot since then and we love to see growth so I’m not going to complain too much here.

I definitely recommend this to romance readers who need a lot of heavy substance in their love stories so it doesn’t feel like a romance novel. Of course it’s still cute and a bit sexy so there’s that too.

Cute and charming with a nice diverse cast. I will keep reading this series.

I wasn’t a fan of the third act break up but this was such a cute and easy read. Can’t wait for the next one.
