I read somewhere that book 1 was the weakest, and perhaps that's true. #3 of the series was a good read. I read it faster than the other 2 and maybe that's because I have a kindle now. Maybe it's because I have a little bit more time...who knows. Love that we seem to tie up some storylines introduced in the previous book. I feel like i'm getting better at realizing clues earlier on. Still wasn't 100% sure who the murderer was, but i was close. How Chief inspector puts everything together and leads with his feelings..so good. I'll read more next year.

3.5 stars. I liked the interpersonal drama more than I liked the storyline, which is interesting because that’s not usually my thing. Definitely a fan of Gamache.

DID NOT FINISH: 30%

I dislike nearly all of these people except the chief inspector, his wife, and the gay guys who run the bistro. I hate the backstabbing from the police. The story is compelling, but I just can't put up with it anymore. Also, it makes no sense that people keep getting murdered in this tiny town.

Another fun read! I'm so loving the little community of Three Pines. The best thing about this series is how the plot continues from book to book, even while each book has a satisfying mystery-solving arc within it. This one took me a long time to get into, but once I hit the halfway point, I couldn't put it down. Aspects of the writing still fall short, but I enjoy the mystery.

set in Quebec

Series continues to get better and better. Definitely a series to read in order.

This one has a haunted house! And the arrival of two baby ducks.

SpoilerOne of the baby ducks dies. But the other one lives a long, happy, profane life.

Absolutely lovely and heart wrenching. Penny does such a beautiful job of helping the reader feel the emotions of the characters.
