Chief Inspector Gamache is one of my favorite literary characters.

So much drama. The backstory stuff, who is good, who is bad. It’s hard to keep straight. The actual mystery is a little weak and I hate how Gamache will figure something out, tell another character, but not tell the reader. It’s a lazy way to build suspense.

A beautiful installment, my favorite so far. Love the smart weaving of literature, faith, and psychology; also some nice closure - not too much, just enough.

This is the BEST of the series so far. Absolutely beautiful culmination of character development over the past few murders and I can’t wait to read the rest.
