I cannot in good conscience rate this higher than a 3, I have never seen an author so obsessed with weight and that Helen Keller lesbian fantasy was something else. Alas I am committed to the series

I want to live in Three Pines and eat all the food.

This book is just another triumph of Louise Penny, full of deep characters and empathy in the presence of a murder mystery. I had little trouble with the depiction of pagan women, and it dragged ever so slightly in parts, but otherwise if you like Louise Penny and Armand Gamache, it’s a must read!

I like Gamache himself, I like the villagers, I like the mysteries. But I have a lot of trouble with the rest of the investigative team including Beauvoir. They are all supremely unlikable. And yet.. I’m still gonna keep reading the series, for another couple books at least.

LOVE the arnot storyline in this one - truly heartbreaking and all too true to real life. Not my favorite main storyline and the end feels a little Disney villain let me explain everything to you all at once, but it was also pretty epic

I so love this series! This is my favourite so far. I love the interactions between the villagers so much, and the way the police drama weaves into the story of the town is great. Can’t wait to pick up book 4!

3.5⭐️ A cozy mystery. No surprises in the stoey or the formula. No surprises expected. That’s why it’s a cozy mystery. It fit the mood that needed this story. If you’ve read any of the Inspector Gamache books before, and liked them, you’ll probably like this one.

I love the characters in these books and the wisdom and profundities peppered through the stories.
