A collection of short essays/blog posts always runs the risks of some of them being interesting, and others dull.

I found some of the essays, especially those in the final section, incredibly interesting. Engelhaupt touches on many fascinating subjects from misophonia to facial recognition to killer clowns. She's brief, funny, and her stories have undoubtedly intrigued me.

That being said, there were some parts I struggled to read - namely, some of the insect stories produced a really visceral reaction in me (a credit to both her writing and the topics themselves) and some topics I just found dull.

Overall, an interesting read.

I love a good book about the gory world around us, the less-than-pleasant details. Of course, what one finds gory or morbid differs from person to person. I didn't particularly find this book overly gory or gross but it does delve into many subjects from death (and autopsies), critters, sex and anatomy, and much more. The author kept the book light hearted with a sprinkle of humor but delivers a lot of facts to your brain. I thoroughly enjoyed Gory Details. If you're a fan of Mary Roach's books, Erika Engelhaupt is right up your alley!
