Love me some interesting and uncomfortable topics. Englehaupt did an excellent job discussing them in an informative but relatable way in bite size nuggets. Definitely would have loved more on some topics as someone who loves science writing like Mary Roach. But the short exposés are perfect to get people interested and thinking about these uncomfortable but incredibly interesting topics.

Such a fun collection of some simply fascinating quick reads! As someone who walks a bit more on the gory/gross/offbeat side of life, this was a fantastic dive into the science of all that weird stuff that I love.

I do have to take a star away purely for the section on creepy crawlies, particularly the pro-cockroach essay (🤢): no matter how much science about them is thrown my way, I will never be a fan.

I come out of this book proud to be curious, I’m definitely smarter for it

Topics are all over the spectrum of grossness. Chapters are short and accurately titled making it easy to skip the ones that were too much for me. Pretty light in tone. The author’s approach is geared towards how the gross stuff can be beneficial and improve lives/society.

Loved it. Made me want to read more on assorted topics. Not as funny as Mary Roach, but similar style. Would give 4.5 stars if that were an option instead of 5.
