This morning it felt like the perfect day for this collection. It was rainy and dark, and I just felt like drinking a cosy cup of tea and reading some mysteries (and murders). But of course, it is still September - so the weather decided halfway through the day, "no, let us bring the summer heat back once more." Sadly, I was already invested by then and decided I would finish the collection anyway.
The short stories in this particular collection are a seasonal compilation of stories taken from the following books, “Poirot’s Early Cases”, “The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding”, “While the Light Lasts”, “Partners in Crime”, “The Thirteen Problems”, “Miss Marple’s Final Cases”, “Murder in the Mews”, “The Hound of Death”, “Parker Pyne Investigates”, and “The Mysterious Mr Quin”.
Overall: 3,2916 ≈ 3,3
Surprisingly this collection and Midsummer Mysteries came up even in their overall rating, even though the stories within each collection have appealed to me in very different ways. The vibe in this collection is not so much autumn as it is spite or greed, but I guess that is a given considering the genre. But some stories had a spooky or haunting feel to them, which I think was the idea behind their selection.
1. Murder in the Mews: 3,25 [Hercule Poirot, Murder in the Mews]
2. The Case of the Rich Woman: 2,75 [Parker Pyne, Parker Pyne Investigates]
3. While the Light Lasts: 3 [Standalone, While the Light Lasts]
4. Triangle at Rhodes: 3,25 [Hercule Poirot, Murder in the Mews]
5. Death by Drowning: 3,5 [Miss Marple, The Thirteen Problems]
6. The Bird with the Broken Wing: 3 [Harley Quin, The Mysterious Mr Quin]
7. The Lemesurier Inheritance: 3,5 [Hercule Poirot, Poirot’s Early Cases]
8. The House of Lurking Death: 3,25 [Tommy and Tuppence, Partners in Crime]
9. Tape-Measure Murder: 3,25 [Miss Marple, Miss Marple’s Final Cases]
10. The Voice in the Dark: 3,5 [Harley Quin, The Mysterious Mr Quin]
11. Four-and-Twenty Blackbirds: 3,25 [Hercule Poirot, The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding]
12. Witness for the Prosecution: 4 [Standalone, The Hound of Death]

Heerlijke verzameling korte verhalen, perfect voor natte herfstdagen als de regen tegen de ramen slaat en jij binnen zit, met een grote kop thee en een slapende kat.
The last story was very good! All these season short story bundles have overlapping short stories in them, I often find ones I've already read in the other books
In this perfect cosy mystery book for fall, I was taken into twelve different short tales by the queen of crime, Agatha Christie. Despite the carefully crafted tales, it was a pity that I was not able to concentrate - mainly because I was too addicted to the contemporary romantasy spices.
Nonetheless, I was fascinated with the power of Agatha Christie to delicately lead the readers into the story. Instantly, I was facing the beloved characters of Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, and other unique ones. I especially enjoyed that the plots were very fresh, even though the written time was so long ago. In other words, I did not see all the reveals, and they were enough spooky to fulfill my cosy Halloween night reads. The language that the author uses is witty and just-the-right-amount detailed. I felt like unlike some mystery writers, Agatha Christie definitely knew how to use her words.
It was very different from what I am used to reading, and this is the reason for my low rating. I recommend this book to people who are seeking bedtime short reads in the fall, when the weather is getting chillier.
