I bought this book years ago and it’s just been chilling in my TBR pile until now. I think partly because John Green writes amazing, deep, tragic, teenage love stories and I’m not always in the mood for that. But the day came, and I loved this book. It was deep and the characters were all so smart and multifaceted, they were like real kids fighting through all the ups and downs they have to face daily, while still trying to be silly and have fun.

I should make a category for books that make me say, "Well.... damn" and sit down for an hour motionless.

This book is an archetype of that category. Stunning.

before/after storyline is everything. before, curious. after, heartbroken.

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed. I expected more, without really knowing what.

I really liked the writing and the characters are well written even if I didn't particularly get attached to them. I really liked the friendship between Miles and Chip. On the other hand, the character of Alaska disappointed me a little, I expected to know more about her but she remains quite enigmatic (which also makes all the singularity of the character).

I'm putting a warning from here because what I'm about to say can potentially be a spoiler ⚠️ I found the book quite similar to All the bright places because of the chapters "...days before/ after" so it gave me a somewhat annoying deja vu and made the plot too predictable. ⚠️ (end of the warning)

I also found the ending a bit long and repetitive, but overall it's still a good read.

I liked this book very much, it was the first book in a long time that really touched and effected me after reading it. The way it's written it is really easy to feel what the main character is feeling. And I think it could be a great starting point to talk to adolescent people about the themes discussed in the book. Like underaged drinking/smoking, rebellion against authority figures, sexualitie, and of course death. While reading the first few chapters I was not sure about the book, but now after finishing it I'm absolutely sure I'll reread it. But it's important to note that it was a very emotional read, I cryed almost the entire second half of the book.
