This book had a kind of slow start for me, but by the end of it I was literally crying and squealing and hugging the book haha. It's a really fun, vaguely ancient Greece inspired fantasy that focuses on some unique ideas bases around the dead, the afterlife, and magic systems rooted in these systems.

The plot felt like the author had SUCH a good idea, and then structured all of her mystery reveals around the world building, which is such a great way to organically introduce your otherworldly fantasy. I loved the characters and their diverse identity expression and exploration of self.

And -- I picked up this book really hoping it would turn out this way -- the romance is poly with ZERO toxicity or jealous involved!! There's even an ace/aro character involved in the polycule! I never gets to see such a thing explicitly represented in romance, SO this was very exciting for me.

This was a really unique NA fantasy and I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for something a bit darker and off the beaten path!

Really mixed feelings about this. The first half was slow and the second half was an absolute gallop. So much crammed in. I’m still wrapping my head around it. This could very easily have been a duology or a trilogy but I’m pleased it was kept to just the one book. Interesting concepts, quite liked the characters and their approach to love and the queer rep

I don't think this book is for everyone, but it was firmly for me, with the blood magic and criticism of gender and found family. Rovan is an absolute delight as a protagonist - messy and stubborn, here for a fun time not a long time. The LGBT+ characters, I think, are handled super well - there's acknowledgment of bigotry they face, but we don't see them suffer for the sake of their identity, they simply Are (and there are so many of them!). I wanted a book like this so deeply, and as finite as the ending is, I wish there was more.

My one criticism, I would say, is
the villain's main motive is to Live Forever, and little beyond that
. I still rounded up despite this because every other component fit together so beautifully for me, but in light of how fleshed out every other facet was, this one thing fell flat.
