It was a fun read, but just overall okay. I didn’t feel a lot of buy-in when it came to the characters, especially Mitch and Greta’s relationship. While Stan goes through a little growth, everyone else in the book remains relatively flat and unchanged. Similar to the first book, the ending gets wrapped up a little too quickly - it’s okay to have baddies spam multiple books, not all conflicts need to be resolved in one book.

This book was really good. It was really realistic because in all the spy books and all of the spy movies, they get shot but they just get up and start running. This showed the being shot is hard and it affects a lot of things and can get you killed.

Now I know I should have read the Mitch Rapp books in order, but, well, I didn't but now have the joy of going backwards and weaving my way through the books I jumped.
I really enjoyed this early look at Rapp's career, I think this is actually the first book the author wrote, and then he went back and wrote book 1, or something like that. Suffice to say, this book is a pre 9/11 look at the work of the CIA and it's a little less sophisticated than some of the later books, but good all the same, and its great to read about some of the series regular characters when they were a bit younger and a bit more unsure of themselves.

While I didn't like this as much as American Assassin, it was still a good read. Still very much enjoy the Mitch Rapp character, but was not as interested in the character development of his girlfriend and

This in one of the best Vince Flynn books! I loved that it got into Rapp's head, explained how things work within the team and showed the history of a lot of the relationships. I enjoyed the younger characters - knowing what they become in the their older age. Excellent write! Excellent read.

PERSONAL NOTE:
I was shocked to hear that Vince Flynn is fighting with Prostate Cancer in the acknowledgements, and I pray that he is able to win his battle. Good luck Mr. Flynn. You are surrounded by love.

Sadly this was the last prequel novel the late great Vince Flynn wrote and it’s a shame because this and American Assassin are arguably my favorite Mitch Rapp novels and I would’ve loved to have seen more missions between here and Transfer of Power where Mitch first appeared. The performance is excellent and seeing Mitch take down Victor is a true highlight moment

I'm giddy to know the aftermath of the ending but the bad guy is dead so no repercussions and humiliation for thsi person. I'm just a sucker for scenes shaming bad people! Anyway, Vince Flynn really is an easy read for me. I don't know if I just noticed it here, or maybe he'd improved in the other sequels, but he was little too descriptive in body movements here. It was not being attentive to detail but unnecessary details.
I hadn't read Mitch Rapp's series in the correct order and it doesn't really hinder from enjoying this page turner. The tension and action and mystery is well-balanced. The characters well-written even those side characters that if this is a TV series I would expect to see in the next season. I don't think they're players in the next books though.
One other thing that is interesting for me is how charming and likeable Rapp is. Jason Bourne wouldn't be if not for the movie. There's spmething abou how Rapp was written that it's Bond-esque but more vulnerable. Vulnerability. It probably is his asset as a character in a story. As of this moment I could think of Mr. Darcy. I couldn't pinpoint it yet but I'm pretty confident of the literary similarities.
