Claudine à l'école est un livre à propos de Claudine, une fille espiègle, et ses mésaventures à son école. Je n'ai pas grand chose à dire sur ce livre. J'ai vraiment apprécié l'écriture et j'ai trouvé que Claudine était un personnage principal incroyable, mais à part ça, ce livre semblait être quelque chose qui n'était pas écrit pour moi, du moins pas à cette étape de ma vie. Cela ressemblait à un livre pour enfants, peut-être quelque chose que j'aurais aimé à onze ou douze ans.
Pourtant, c'était un livre assez amusant et facile. Je ne regrette pas de l'avoir lu et je le recommanderais si vous êtes d'humeur pour un simple classique.

Claudine is certainly one of the most interesting main characters I’ve read ever. She has many facades which neither make her much loveable nor the opposite, but she certainly is very funny and it’s exciting to read about her life.

a comic strip or sitcom. steady characters participating in a formula. it’s reasonably entertaining. a world soft and pretty with bearable conflict. the only deviation, an offhand mention of a newborn fed to pigs.
lots of verbal sparring. the drama and gossip of romances. school girls pinching, slapping, and squeezing one another. dresses, ribbon, and curls. improvised chewing gum, spilt ink pots, and contraband bottles of feminine invention.
no sex scenes. instead, continuous flirting and some suggestion. art is best this way.
it has not been nullified by time. light violence as a form of affection is still kinky. that they’re fifteen adds to the filth. the nonchalant presentation of homosexuality feels fresh.
the characters surely care for one another, but the book keeps the reader engaged by never satisfying the want for proof. friends continue to take pleasure in one another’s shortcomings. like That 70s Show.
claudine’s love for the woods sits at the top. the attention she gives to their description and her consistent return.

Much of Colette's later spark and crackle is here in this early novel, a school story bustling with passionate, romantic friendships, biting pranks, and stylish frippery and flounce. Claudine and her school fellows explore the boundaries between friends and lovers, or the lack thereof, and Colette instills great heart and beauty into the often painful process of growing up. Practically bursting with life.
