I read the entire series (except the last book that isn't out until next year) in a week. I'm glad I did before I saw all the negative reviews, because they would have thrown me off from reading this wonderful series. Celaena Sardothien apparently is too whiny, girly, and careless for a lot of readers because she's "supposed" to be this badass and falls short of their idea of what a heroine should be.

I thought she was realistic. She's a teenager who is now in a castle, with only three people knowing who she is, and access to books and luxuries for the first time in months. She's not a perfect character, or a perfect assassin. The first book paints her as rather ditsy and shallow, but she's anything but. Letting people in the castle see her that way is a great way to get everyone's guard down, and also for her to take a break. As the series continues, her character, her skills, and her exposure grow. Also, if you can, I suggest reading the novellas. They're prequels, and they give a great background.

2018: My first reread of ToG was amazing! SJM does a marvelous job setting up the entire series through these characters, legends, and dreams. She is just brilliant! There were so many things I missed during my first go because I was so eager to find out what was next in the plot! All of the details make her books extraordinary and rereadable! Onward to Crown of Midnight and the count down to Kingdom of Ash!!!

2017: What a great start to a series!!

I don't know how I feel about this book. I wanted to love it, as I've been on a fantasy kick, but it wasn't until halfway through that the fantasy portion was put into place. And even when it was there, it just didn't seem to flow with the rest of the book premise. I bought the entire series as they were on sale, so I plan on reading the rest of them, so hopefully the get better!
