I have begun the commitment that is Throne of Glass. I did come into this series with zero knowledge of the plot. I just knew it was written by SJM prior to ACOTAR. Because of my negative pre-research I was a bit surprised by the premise of the book. This first novel follows Celaena, the most successful assassin of all the land. She had been captured and imprisoned for a year in Endovier until Prince Dorian and his guard, Chaol require her services. They tell her the King is going to have a competition, Hunger Games style, where a bunch of soldiers and criminals will compete to become the King’s Champion. At first Celeana wanted no part of it but when Dorian assured her that if she won and became the King’s champion she’d only have to serve for four years and then she would have her freedom, she accepted to compete. She competed under the pseudonym of Lillian since everybody would recognize her as the famed assassin if she used her real name. The competition consists of multiple trials where the competitors that performed the worst were slowly eliminated until a final duel was to take place between the two top contenders. The only other competitors that are worth remembering are Nox (ally) and Cain (biggest threat). As more and more trials occur, Celaena becomes closer with both Chaol and Dorian and a love triangle forms

I just think this was the perfect beginning to a very large series, can’t wait to see what journey these books take me on!

What a great book!! I didn’t feel like this book was slow or hard to get into for me, sometimes books drag in the beginning and I really enjoyed this whole book! I love Celena and this competition definitely gave me hunger games vibes! I’m excited to see how the story continues! Overall I give this book 4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I am so glad that I read assassin’s blade first, otherwise I don’t think I would’ve made it through this book. I love SJM and I’m excited to see what the series has to bring, but it definitely was a slow start to the series… on to the next!
