This is the 3rd book in the librarian Glynis Tryon mystery series. It is set in the mid 1800's in Seneca Falls, NY. A new doctor to town, a Jewish woman, is kept busy with autopsies on men whose deaths seem to somehow be related. A halfbreed Indian man is accused of the murder of a woman and is suspected to be guilty of the other murders. This is during a time of tenuous relationships between the whites and the Indians. It's also a time when there are very few women doctors. They are not respected by the community at large. How are the murders connected? How to prove that the Indian, who refuses to speak, is innocent?

The author is an historian who makes history alive with well documented research and interesting characters.
