If you've ever watched Pale Cocoon, Inside Out is a lot like that. A world with levels of metal and pipes. One of the big differences between Pale Cocoon and Inside Out is the ideal of information.
Inside Out has two classes: Scrubs are the lower class that is sought to clean and produce more workers. And the Uppers, who are more-so thought of as high-class society and work more with electrics, technology, and all that jazz. But there are two groups that both levels need to look out for: the Pop Cops and the Controllers. If one is out of line, you'd either be punished or fed to the Chomper.
The story line was very interesting and deeply involved. Something I had to calculate since instead of days they go by weeks, always work with tens more than anything else, and calculating age in weeks was hard for me to keep up with but made main character Trella's world different.
The relations between Trella and Riley was overall adorable and whenever they talked or when he told her about Sheepy, I couldn't help but AWW at those moments.
Everything was fast paced and every chapter kept me on the edge of my seat. The ending was a huge cliffhanger and waiting for Outside In is going to be a tough one for me!

First I will say that overall I did like this book, however toward the end I felt like it started to drag out. It just wasnt as tight as i would have liked. The ending was a little to conveniant for my tastes. I also found all the technical stuff regarding the pipes and quadrants a bit much. The story held my attention until the end is why I gave it 3 stars. Plus there were parts I did like. I can say that I am in no hurry to read the next one.
This book was based for a slightly younger audience, and yet it still held me captivated. Maria is not scared to do whatever she must to enhance the plot, even if it makes the characters miserable. Its an admirable trait in a writer.
RATING: 3 stars.
The ending was good... but the rest of the book, not so much.
Review to come... maybe.

Inside Out had a lot of potential, but its weakest point was its lack of explanation. To me, the world-building was extremely slow and rather weak--when I read a dystopian book, I need to know why/how the world came to be... This novel pretty much just catapulted you in and the whole pipe thing was plain confusing without a map. Other than that, though, Inside Out was fairly interesting in terms of plot twists, characters, and creativity. The ending, unpredictable and shocking, just had to end on a cliffhanger that made me want to read the next book (I hadn't actually planned on doing so midway through, but with that ending...).

“When the effort fails, is it worth the cost?”
Inside Out is captivating read, with some surprising twists in the storyline, full of interesting sci-fi elements - if you're into that sort of thing, if not you'll struggle to get into it at the beginning. (Like me, I have to say). Characters were ok, but not truly remarkable (I hope that the second book will change that). There is little bit of romance, but no love triangle and it's not getting into the way of the story like in lot of Ya.
It's more of sci-fi, but the story has some elements of Hunger Games. For example -
“For the first time, I was the center of attention. Everyone watched me as if I were a bomb. Would I explode and cause a disaster or would I pop and cause a miracle?”
This is the type of - it's not you, it's me - read. I'm not the biggest fan of Sci-fi or Dystopia, I guess. Except for Hunger Games and The Lunar Chronicles, I can't recall any book from this genre that I actually love. Although, I'd definitely appreciate if you recommend me some of your favourites.
I still remain huge fan of Snyder's books and will definitely read the sequel soon. (I blame you, cliffhanger!)
“No hope, is worse than fear.”

I would rate this 3 stars for an adult but 4 for a teen.
I was very impressed and surprised with this series. The book was a two in one combo and discounted to a ridiculous price so I had suspicion it would not be that great. The characters were all greatly built and believable for a concept that was very scifi. And yet even the story wasn't too far fetched compared to other books in this genre that are good but not something even possible. It is intriguing to read a fiction that could very well happen in the far future setting. To have characters that are still relatable and realistic. The love story in this wasn't your usual love triangle with an annoying female character that just can't do anything on her own.She is strong and able but also not completely independent.I enjoyed the twists and suspense although it sort if reminded me of another book I read and not sure which series came first.Other than that it had it's own twist at the ending and was very original.I wish there were more books with this series.
