my god! i absolutely loved this. the inbetweens like the game aspect and the training and all kind of make it a bit more lame but my GOD are those references good. and that ending hit so hard. she haunted him with mockingjays and the song. just brilliant brilliant brilliant

After rereading the Hunger Games trilogy I was looking forward to reading the story of President Snow. It took me a long time to get through it because I honestly felt sick knowing what Snow ended up being like. I really thought it was interesting how Snow wanted to hold on to any and all remnants of his mother throughout the book, especially when times got tough. On the other hand he resented his dad, but still wanted to live up to the Snow name like his father. By the end of the book, he throws away the last remaining token he has of his mother, showing he has let go of all things that made him decent and fully leaning into his father’s shoes and on the journey to becoming the President Snow we all know now. Also I love Lucy Gray 😭😭😭 Seeing how her songs survived all the way down to Katniss makes me so happy 😭😭😭 Suzanne Collins continues to amaze me with her brilliant writing. This prequel was amazing. All the details that crossed over from the trilogy was amazing. (I’m so glad I reread them before reading this.) I watched this book’s movie before reading lol but now so many things make more sense. As always I prefer the books to the movies and looking forward to reading and watching SOTR!!!
