If this book doesn’t solidify Suzanne Collins as a great writer, I don’t know what will. This book is beautifully written even though it’s dark and twisted. There’s a perfect balance between humanizing Coriolanus Snow but also not portraying him as a helpless victim. His environment influenced him, but he also made choices that showed how he became President Snow in the original trilogy.

for coryo i think it's also a very big question of nature vs nurture. I think he's already got that inclination towards violence and manipulation in him but going to 12 and being surrounded by lucy gray's people could've changed that, when they showed him another option: love. His decision to run off with lucy gray is only made when the alternative is death. Brilliant, evil character. suzanne never misses

I really enjoyed this book, but I felt like the main character of Snow never made sense to me. Even at the end, I don't quite get how he becomes the dictator type president he is in the original trilogy. Hopefully this is fleshed out further in the next book, or hinted at the least.
