I read the translation by Northwest Flower, and it's very good, but I do highly recommend getting the Seven Seas officially licensed translation to support the author. 

I think when the series is fully released in English by Seven Seas then I will likely rate nearly every book 5 stars. The story and characters are absolutely phenomenal, but I did struggle to understand some of the different political factions. I'm really looking forward to a reread. 

There were times I threw my head back and laughed, and there were times when I was so emotionally devastated that I needed to stop reading to sob into my hands.

The extras were also top-tier, exactly what I wanted. The truth or dare: steampunk edition extras were hilarious.

I honestly didn't have many expectations going into this and it blew me away. My favorite book by priest so far. (the fourth I've read, along with Guardian, Qi Ye, and Tian Ya Ke).

MIND THE TRIGGER WARNINGS it is dark af at places.

It's about solving crimes, so it's relatively pro-cop, and the crimes are extensively described and often awful. For example, one entire plotline focuses on

busting a pedophilia/murder ring, where children are kidnapped, sold to pedophiles, then kissed

. It's very hard reading at times.

Super dark, interconnected mysteries are interspersed with cute relationship moments and also moments with the cat, which are adorable and hilarious. Not sure I'd recommend it to anyone due to the aforementioned super dark mysteries (sexual assault, rape, and murder of children top the list), but it was really good. The way the mysteries were connected was great, and I really liked the characters.
