Wonderful, wonderful story. I read the book in class, as a child and then later saw the movie and remembered how lovely and bittersweet this story is. It was a wonderful read, but prepare to feel some things.
This has got to be one of the best books I have ever read! The feelings in this book were so real that I fully experienced the emotions the characters in the book were. Their happiness, sadness, fear, ect. were all felt like they were happening to me in real life. This is a book I will definitely reread and am so happy to have been given by a stranger at my public library.
I read this in mmm 5th grade. I still remember that ending.
Love it! My sixth grade teacher read this book aloud to us in class, chapter by chapter every morning before he began teaching. He then decided to buy every student a copy of it as a Christmas gift, wrapped them all, and gave them to us the last morning before break during our Christmas party. I was beyond thrilled and have read it several times since I got it 10 years ago. It's still one of my favorites.
