A classic that must be read by all

I’m glad I picked this up and read it. I know many read this story in school, but I’m not sure I did. I’m glad I did pick it I now as an adult and read it. Definitely a must read for generations to come:

I might have liked this book better as an adult than I did as a child. The audio version is fabulous!

I have no memory of why, but this book gave me a warm glow when I read it as a child.

A classic full of heartbreak. Never fails to make me cry.

A boy and his two hunting dogs. Their adventures. And the nights that changed their lives.

I picked this up because I remember enjoying it as a kid and wanted to revisit it to see how I liked it now. The only thing I remembered about this book was how sad it was when the dog died and there was a long section where the kid was determined to chop down a huge tree for some reason. I remembered nothing about the coon hunting and the contest at the end. Overall, I'm glad I reread this one, but I didn't feel it was as sad as I remembered. The story was still very good and I'd recommend this for a mature, adventurous kid (there are some heavy elements throughout).
