Ok, I'm not sure if it's just Loretta Chase's writing style or just the characterization, but I had a lot of trouble adapting to the often superfluous and hyperbolic dialogue. It works for the characters, and once I got used to it, I had more fun, but man it was tough at the beginning (also because this is #4 in a series I haven't read). I did really enjoy the banter between Raven and Clara, as well as their amateur spy adventures - even if it did feel like swimming through molasses like text at times.

This was a re-read for me and it brought home just how much I truly LOVE this book.

You'll be hard pressed to find a better matched couple than Clara and Raven. The way they truly see each other, the care they show while still challenging each other, their ability to argue and disagree without trampling each other or falling apart...they're perfect. These two truly give each other what they need and enrich their lives. It gives, to me, a glimpse into what a genuine partnership can look like.

I also feel like this book has A LOT going on plot-wise but it's still able to deliver satisfying resolutions to every aspect. Also, if you like a little hurt/comfort or nursing someone back to health situation, this book takes a detour into that territority at the midpoint and its GOOD.

Truly, you're gonna love this one. Pay close attention to Clara and Raven's internal monologs (especially at the beginning) and you'll see clearly what makes these two SO special.
