A story about two childhood friends turned lovers to years long distance from each other to finally being reunited after so many years a part. This story followed Percy (Persephone) and Sam having a close bond and finding their way back to each other. There’s a saying that there’s that one person for you, the person who truly understands you and Percy and Sam truly encapsulated this lovely sentiment.

Right away, this story shifted from the present and past told through Percy’s perspective over the years of when she first met Sam to returning back to Barry’s Bay following the passing of Sam’s mom, Sue, who Percy was close to as well. I loved seeing the past of Percy and Sam’s blooming friendship and how each summer they spent together was fun and showcased how close they understood each other on a deep level. Each summer highlighted the development of both Percy and Sam, but also as they got older how their feelings started to shift into more romantic, seeing each other in a new light.

Percy was someone I enjoyed, and not to mention I loved how her parents named her Persephone since her Dad was a professor in Greek mythology. Percy was someone I was truly intrigued with, and alongside learning about her friendship with Sam, I was also curious to find out what happened on the infamous Thanksgiving dinner that occurred years ago that Percy mentioned over the course of the story. Switching back from past and present, I got to see Percy’s perspective from over the years at Barry’s Bay with Sam, and also left me wondering what was the thing that caused the inevitable break between Percy and Sam. In a way, there was some mystery along the story since you were left questioning what happened on that Thanksgiving.

In a way, while reading this book I got major summer vibes so I could totally recommend this as the perfect summer/ beach read to get you in the mood for the upcoming summer, but even if it’s not summer, I would highly recommend this book! In addition, this book kind of reminded me of Christina Lauren’s, “Love and Other Words”, since that also had childhood friends to lovers and the books seemed kind of similar so if you loved that book, I think you would love this book as well.

I absolutely could not get enough of this book. Once I started it, I kept turning page after page being fully immersed in Percy and Sam’s story. I was captivated by the story and reading between the past and present really highlighted the changes and precious moments that Percy and Same shared. As well as seeing the heartbreak, sad, emotional moments between Percy and Sam too. Just when I thought I would take a break, I decided I needed to know more.

Towards the end, the mystery behind what happened between Percy and Sam was revealed. At first, I was surprised because initially I formulated my own theories as to what had happened, but then reading what Percy did left me shocked. In a way, it was a plot twist since I genuinely wasn’t expecting the truth to come out the way that it did, and especially with Sam having known about it all those years, my heart dropped and left me feeling a variety of different emotions. If you’ve read the book you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

This book truly was unique in the way that it was written, the plot, the build up to reveal the truth of what caused the rift between Percy and Sam, and essentially them finding their way back to each other. Not all love stories are perfect and Percy and Sam’s story illustrated that. I loved every moment, and while I was left speechless towards the end (the big reveal of what happened between Percy & Sam), I was happy to see that Carley made sure to write the reality of Percy and Sam’s relationship in the epilogue. Overall, a phenomenal book that I would highly recommend and would definitely re read again since Percy and Sam had me laughing, feeling emotional, and pondering over a lot of things.
