“running away from you would be like running away from the air in my lungs.” I took his hand and held it to my chest. “Don’t you get it yet? I can’t breathe with out you, Wil. You told me once that a home doesn’t have to be a place. Well, what if home is a person. Because you feel like home to me.”
This book is on the higher spectrum of 3 stars, because while I really enjoyed it, it did take a while for me to get into it and read.
I loved the whole magician/ heist bits in the nineteenth century settings. The vibes were amazing and it all fit together. Reading about all the tricks and cons that were being pulled off was so fun and entertaining.
The characters were all interesting to read about as well, i looked forward to learn about their backstories, personality, and dreams. Ruth, Jessamy, and Evangeline especially.
Now for the main characters Jack and Wil. I loved them, their relationship was so heartwarming ☺️☺️. Jack was my favorite character and his entire arc was so good, seeing him constantly defend the Enchantress and his abandonment issues were both interesting to read. Jack being so determined to help free Wil and Wil being infatuated with Jack was adorable. I loved their ending, the fact that they were able to escape and are living freely was such a good conclusion to both of their stories. Although I do wish Wil’s power were more expanded on, like I know he is weak to iron but why and why is he the only person with s actual magical abilities.
The ending was shocking to me, the whole teddy scheme was so satisfying

its hard to rate cause first half the book was soooook good for me, it really awakened the staying up late to finish just another chapter spirit, but it has such a weird show/tell mix of overexplaining everything being said and every emotion, and the stakes felt very eishy washy (like one thing that annoyed me was Jack stepping on a plate while Wil was in a cage and i was so sure its gonna be relevant / have bad consequences but instead it felt like it was gonna be a hook but the author forgot about it?) just a lot of things felt underdeveloped and i liked a couple of metaphos in the beginning but the writing somehow got worse and worse. still, i liked the rogue vibes and the magic of it all, just was a bit hard to take seriously

I had a lot of fun with this book and the characters but I felt like it was missing something overall
