"Birds of California" follows Fiona, a former teen star on a show that sounds a lot like 7th Heaven, and her former co-star who is trying to convince her to come back for a reboot. She crashed and burned publicly toward the end of her time on the show, and she's not interested in visiting the spotlight again. But her friendship with Sam opens something up in her, and she begins to wonder if things could be better.

I love a good dynamic character. Fiona isn't always pleasant, and she's adept at self-sabotage, but dang if I didn't love seeing her grow and soften. I also love Hollywood romance and books set in California, so that was spot-on for me.

Like a grown-up version of Rules for Being a Girl, except also entirely unique on its own. Birds of California was such a delight to read, exploring one of the reasons why a child-star would ruin their career. My only complaint is I wanted more. I wanted to see these two being successful and happy. But the ending was satisfying in its own right..

this could have and should have been longer. i feel like we barley scratched the surface on what happened and the characters that i would gladly have taken an extra hundred pages.
