Loretta Chase pulls off a remarkable feat in the first half of this romance novel - she creates a runaway bride followed by the hero's best friend and manages to keep the action going at a steady pace while maintaining a high level of plausibility. Occasionally I found myself asking "why is she running and running so hard" but like a really good farce, the action was logical without necessarily being rational. I have a low tolerance for bad farce so the fact that I genuinely enjoyed the first half is meaningful.

The second half is more traditional romance novel - enjoyable but not playing at the high level of the first half.

I wanted to like this so bad but it just didn’t do it for me. I just didn’t really connect with characters. Found the pace a bit slow and not as funny as other Loretta Chase books. It was just a bit bland. I heard fans like the second book way more than this one but I’m not sure if il give it a go. Man this is so annoying I feel bad saying this but I haven’t found any Loretta Chase books that I love as much as the Carsington series.

Runaway bride gets caught by the Duke’s best friend who is, conveniently, also a Duke. Road trip ensues. The scenarios are fun, but the language is a little repetitive.

A decent story, not outstanding.

Nothing wrong with the book, I just lost interest - I initially dnfed with this comment.
But I couldn't sleep and let it play anyway and it turns out it was fun:)
