I think this was my favorite of Flinn's fairytales that I've read. Maybe it's because she specifically chose tales that aren't as well known, but I think she did a great job of weaving them together. The story was predictable but thoroughly enjoyable. Even made me laugh a few times.

I liked the references to the less well-known Grimm's fairytales.

Angehnehme passende Stimme mit großer Varriationsbreite.

Geschichte ist sehr einfach gehalten mit vielen Klischess. Es macht Spaß diese Neuinterpretation zu hören. Sie nimmt sich selbst nicht ganz ernst.

If I could give this 0 stars, I would.

This veered a little bit too much on the silly and predictable for me to really love, but it was an entertaining and quick read, and I appreciated recognizing so many of the fairy tales that generally get less attention. I didn't think the titled of the book was very fitting, though.
A fun and easy read if you want something light with some decent messages and fairy tale tie-ins.

After I read Beastly by Alex Flinn, I figured I'd give another one of her fairy tale retelling books a try.
Seeing the title and reading the summary, I assumed that the fairy tale retelling would be the fairy tale of The Frog Prince, but instead the story was a mashed up amoeba of about 10 different fairy tales. I was very confused about this, because it started out with The Elves and the Shoemaker, then went into tales such as The Salad. Some other problems were that the main character, Johnny, was given wayyyyyyyy too much power, so he escaped pretty much everything. He was also so dang oblivious to everything. Like with Beastly, the writing style was poor and the descriptions were limited. It tried to make it look like the protagonist was struggling, and then BANG he gets 10,000 dollars from a rich (not to mention beautiful) princess from a place that sounds somewhat like France. I also think that Johnny was too naive, so I'm not sure I really liked him as a main character. Again, the author used descriptions to describe someone's appearance like "hot-looking."
I'm not sure I would totally recommend this book to a lot of people.

Overall this was pretty fun, unique and interesting. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite by Flinn but it was worth reading.

This book is a wild, crazy, cheesy, and over-the-top adventure and also apparently a fairy tale retelling of about 7 fairy tales. Definitely not a book to take too seriously. It's weird, but I didn't hate it and might have laughed out loud a few times.

This was fun

I received this book from the Junior Literary Guild. Having loved their selections in the past I decided to read it.

Although the story read really fast, I felt there was way too much going on. It was a "mash-up" of MANY fairy tales. It never fully developed one good story just jumped from tale to tale. This kept the characters very flat and undeveloped. I didn't get a chance to really feel any emotions for any of the characters.
