It was Cheesy..... And unfortunately I am lactose intolerant.
So I've read a couple of Flinn's other books and I was very pleased with them every time. However, that was not the case with Cloaked. It was good and all, but just didn't hold that awesome totally cool combo of amazing fairy tale stories. It was good and involved The Frog Prince!! but it just wasn't as good as I had expected it to be.

so maybe almost all of the twists in this book were predictable; i still thought the ending was so cute! i didn't know i would like the ending, but seeing the main character get his perfect little happily ever after was endearing.
This book is narrated by a funny, witty boy who is taken on a wild ride through a world of magic that he never knew existed. Approached by a Princess, discovering that his best friend is a witch, his life is changed forever after his adventure in the Florida keys. Cute, funny, and charming, this novel is a great read for anyone who loves classic fairy tales, or even just a cute novel.
I enjoyed Alex Flinn's book Beastly and thought A Kiss in Time was merely okay. I wasn't sure what to expect from Cloaked, but the summary definitely sparked my interest.
The book combines a variety of fairy tales, most of which are not widely known. I liked that Alex Flinn wanted to not only be unique, but also shed some light on these lesser known fairy tales. The plot as a whole was nothing amazing, at times it seemed to drag on. It wasn't a "sit on the edge of my seat" book, but it was a cute story.
None of the characters really interested me. After finishing the book I honestly forgot about them. I really wished they had been better characterized because they did not do anything for me. The biggest thing that interested me was who Johnny would end up with, it didn't end the way I wanted though.
Overall the story had a promising premise, but it fell a bit flat. I enjoyed seeing the modern retelling of the fairy tales, but as a whole it was not that great.

This was definitely not for me. It is a cute idae, but the plot is rather thin, and some points never settled enough for me to work up any concern for the characters. Also, the author writes foreign accents selled in phonetics, and that really grated.
I love fairy tales & I loved the 3 other Alex Flinn books I read (I read Beastly 3 or 4 times), but I had dropped this one years & years ago after reading 80 pages.
I started it all over & I read it frustratingly slow over the course of a week.
The inclusion of many fairy tales was good, but the story was underdevelopped, the characters rang fake.
I was very irritated by the choice the author made to signal the fact that some character had (French & German) accents by misorthographing the words they spoke. First, it took some effort to be able to understand which word was meant to be written, but additionnally, I find it quite offensive. When you speak a word, whether you speak it with this or that accent, it's still the word. The word doesn't change because of the way you say it. You can write that the characters have strong foreign accent if you want. It's not like people working at an hotel would not be used to hearing foreign accents all day, every day & actually be glad that the guests speak English, however accentuated, because it's not like they speak any foreign language.
Things that could be seeing in her others books are also very noticeable here, no Latinx character, no Spanish speakers in a book set in Miami. A ... choice.
Anyway, the clearing over of my shelves from books that have been here for years but I still haven't read is still going strong, hopefully I'll be done within the year.

This was very cute. I liked that the author used lesser known fairy tales to base this book from. They all tied together nicely in one grand adventure for the main character.
