Man’s cruelty to his fellow men - the riding emotion from this installment, also the most depressing thought. The thought that there was no sympathy for the survivors from others shows how dire things had gotten in Japan at the time of the war, with no trust between citizens, no empathy or care.

I don’t think I can continue reading the rest of the volumes, all real but this series is making me really sad. Maybe I should be okay with no knowing the intricate details of what happened after the bomb was dropped, but I do want to know how the rebuild efforts were, whether trust was built between citizens or not.

Documents the aftermath of the bombing of Hiroshima and the war through the eyes of a young boy. Vivid and funny as well as sad; art very old school manga.

Again, a good volume. The touching story continues, and this is not necessarily any less good than the previous volumes. However, I am becoming a bit tired of all the "extremeness" of how people's behaviour are being portrayed. People scream, shout, vomit in gigantic sprays, punches and slaps each other brutally. Perhaps it is something I fail to appreciate with manga, but personally it's becoming a bit too exhausting, and too removed from reality, at this point.
I read it all in one sitting though, so it's in no way bad!

This was the best volume so far! The touching and psychologically gripping stories of the Hiroshima survivors are worked seamlessly into Gen's journey.
